Etnies Lake Forest Skatepark Peg Ban Shelved for 30 Days

The city of Lake Forest, CA is home to the Etnies Lake Forest Skatepark. This park is run by the city and was primarily funded through donations from Etnies shoes. Recently, with a planned expansion to the park, the city council recently voted to ban pegs, citing concerns about wear and tear.

On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, a large crowd of BMX riders, including Etnies team manager John Povah, Fit Team Manager Ben Ward, and Etnies pros Gary Young and Ben Snowden, attended the Lake Forest City Council meeting. After presenting their case, it was agreed that the council would shelve the peg ban for 30 days until they could gather more data and investigate possible solutions.

For their part, Etnies is completely opposed to the ban. According to Etnies, “To this point we haven’t seen that pegs cause excessive wear and tear, and BMX pegs are essential to BMX park riding. We would like to work with the city to find a solution to continue to allow pegs in the park!”

Etnies has a petition to fight the ban here on their website.

The BMX Riders Organization agrees that pegs are an essential part of BMX park riding, and like Etnies, we oppose the peg ban. Stay tuned for updates on the next meeting. It’s imperative that we keep the momentum going so that the peg ban can be lifted entirely.
