Desert Hot Springs, CA Concrete BMX Park

In 2007, the city of Desert Hot Springs opened the first concrete bike-only park in California.

Built specifically for BMX, it feature as hips, transfers, sub boxes, street spines, and a curved wallride. This park was designed by Charles H. Strawter Design, Inc. Here is a Ride BMX article about the grand opening.

Soon after the park opened, other BMX parks have begun popping up in cities such as Fresno, CA and Santa Cruz, CA. The first concrete bike park was opened in 2005 in Flagstaff, AZ, followed in 2007 by Chandler, AZ. Both are considered a world facilities.

BMX parks are a relatively new phenomenon. Most BMX riders report that they would be willing to share such facilities with other user groups, such as skateboarders and inline skaters. However, due to liability concerns, some cities opt for the more expensive route of building separate parks. This can be great for the local riders, as you can see in the videos below:

  1. Fact check: Flagstaff Bike Park was the first bike-only park in the world. It opened in 2005. Chandler Bike Park was the second.

  2. I already posted this information in my article about the Flag park.
